I picked up my car from the auto mechanic today. I am happy in some ways to have it back, but I could have done without the over $500 bill. These were new things wrong with the car not related to the other things I still need to have replaced. I decided that after having all the repairs done to it that I will consider allowing my teenager to drive it this year after turning 16. I think that having only the one vehicle will be more affordable including for insurance costs. I don't believe that a parent should buy a teenager a brand new vehicle for turning 16, but as a single parent having another driver would be helpful.
Personally I am planning to take public transportation as often as possible. While the car was being tuned yesterday, I rode the bus to the grocery store and bank. It was so nice to be able to relax and let someone else drive. My only complaint was that the bus routes near here are sporadic and do not match up from one to the next.
I also want to have my bicycle fixed. I wish I had learned bicycle repair as a kid. I know that the library has a dvd that teaches the basics so I plan to recheck it out to try to fix the bike myself. I am also going to install a rear rack added so that it will be easier to carry packages. My dad is giving me an old Schwinn bike this summer too. It already has a basket on it. I am excited. I know that most of the public trans buses here have bicycle carriers which will come in handy.
