Future Considerations

In setting goals, one of the steps that is often suggested is to write a list of things that you would want people to say about you at your funeral. I know this may seem a little morbid at first, but upon a second glance it makes perfect sense. A person's day to day actions should reflect the person he or she wants to become. I have made my own list here in no particular order.
  • I loved God
  • I thought that family was important
  • I was kind and cared about others including those I didn't know
  • I thought for myself
  • I had passion for life
  • I did what others said couldn't be done
  • I worked hard
  • I was a good mother
  • I believed in my daughter
  • I was everyone's cheerleader
  • I worried about the future of our planet
  •  I followed my dreams
  • I wasn't worried about what other people thought
  • I believed that education was important at any age
  • I thought everyone should learn a skill
  • I was always working towards improving myself
  • I loved my garden and being outdoors
  • I loved to dance and was proud to be Irish
  • I believed everyone deserved a chance
  • I was a dreamer and loved to travel
  • I felt that being Catholic was improtant
  • I found joy in the simple things in life
  • I wasn't a slave to money
As I made this list, I contemplated if the choices I have made in my life reflected these ideals. They haven't always, but writing this list helped me to focus on what I feel is important in life.
