5 Suprises for the Spring

Garden May 2012
  1. I planted a garden bed yesterday of peppers, tomatoes, and basil. I went to check on them this morning and something had dug up my basil. All the basil was gone. The other plants were not touched.
  2. I bought some seeds this year from a company in Alaska. The lettuce seeds I purchased from there have done really well. I only planted about 20 plants. 17 of those are thriving. I have been eating fresh lettuce for about a week now.
  3. I decided this year to inoculate my peas before planting. The plants appear stronger than those without the treatment. I normally try to avoid chemical treatments of all kinds on my plants, but I thought I'd test this product. They are about a foot tall with flowers on them. They look great. I hope my visitor from last night doesn't pick these as his or her next meal.
  4. 90 degrees in upstate New York in May is HOT!
  5. Not only is vinyl siding bad for the environment, but if anyone has ever told you that it is maintenance free he or she LIED to you. My little cottage has this stuff on it that the previous owners installed. I scrubbed forever yesterday along the back side of the house to make it white again. I don't own a pressure washer and it wasn't affordable to hire someone else to do it. If you have the choice, then pick something else!
